Couples therapy

Even the most committed partners can get worn down by stress, communication struggles or emotional distance. Couples therapy is a confidential, structured space to talk about what is creating the distance and rebuild trust and connection, with both of you in the room.

  • ✓The same argument keeps coming back, in slightly different clothes
  • ✓Intimacy or closeness has faded and neither of you knows how to bring it back
  • ✓An old hurt, including infidelity, still sits between you
  • ✓A transition like parenting, relocation or a career change has changed the relationship
  • ✓One or both of you carry trauma that shows up in how you fight, withdraw or connect

How couples therapy works here

My approach is not about assigning blame or choosing sides. It is about creating understanding. Together we uncover the relational patterns that are not working, explore the emotional triggers underneath them, and develop clearer ways to communicate what each of you needs.

Many couples start therapy feeling stuck, or unsure whether the relationship can recover. The work is to rebuild emotional closeness and a sense of partnership, with openness and consistent effort from both of you. It is especially suited to couples living with the impact of trauma on the relationship, including unresolved childhood wounds or past relational injuries. All sessions are by secure video, so you can meet from home.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

EMDR is a structured, well-researched therapy for trauma, overwhelming life events and deeply rooted emotional distress. At its foundation, EMDR helps the brain reprocess painful memories that have stayed stuck, so they lose their grip on the present.

Unlike regular talk therapy, EMDR does not rely heavily on verbal analysis. It engages the brain's own processing through bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, alternating sounds or gentle tapping. You do not have to relive every detail of what happened, and we go at a pace that fits you.

EMDR is widely used for trauma and PTSD, and also for anxiety, depression, phobias, low self-worth and performance-related stress. In couples work it is often used individually with one partner whose history keeps surfacing in the relationship. By secure telehealth, it is available in every state where I am licensed.
